Ah Toots (St Nic's Market, near Eat a Pitta) - added 4/10/2015
A lovely stall in St Nic's Market which has some beautiful cakes. They always have a vegan cake or two, and try to make more vegan cakes for the weekends. The cupcake was delicious and I can't wait to try some more of their offerings - just have a look at the cakes on their site. They also do bespoke ordering.

Bagel Boy (39-41 St. Nicholas Street, BS1 6AD)
I ate here a few months ago with a friend and really enjoyed it - the atmosphere was good and the food was nice. Somewhat unhelpfully, the menu on their website has not been updated since 2014, but I can confirm that they do a Vegan Boy (which is listed on their Deliveroo page) that is roasted veg with tomatoes, salad and sweet chili sauce.

Boston Tea Party (Whiteladies Road near Clifton Down shopping centra; top of Park Street)
Their vegan food includes good jacket potatoes, a sandwich (the Medavo, which contains all my fav things!), a falafel wrap, the most amazing salad you will ever eat and a sugar-free flapjack. Good value and (without sounding too pretentious!) nice atmosphere.
Highly recommended
Bristol Guild Cafe (in Bristol Guild shop, about half way up Park Street)
This lovely little cafe is located within a shop that sells all sorts of interesting stuff. The cafe doesn't disappoint vegan visitors, selling soya milk and a good range of baked goods. Last time I went here, it was really hard to choose between all the lovely vegan flapjacks! Indeed, their website states that "We cater for vegan and vegetarian diets."

Update: I went here for the first time after their recent refurb today and they have retained the flapjacks. Hurrah! They have vegan chocolate & coconut, apricot, and malted fruit and seed, the latter of which is truly a thing of beauty (£1.75 eat in, 25% discount for take-away). They also have some salads (veg cous cous, pulses, lettuce, and your standard tomato & cucumber) all of which are vegan, and the lady that served me said that the soup was often vegan too, although she didn't seem too sure. Unfortunately, none of their pies and tarts appeared to be vegan, but you couldn't really tell as nothing had been labelled 'vegan,' although they did have signs for nuts and gluten-free.

The Bristolian (2 Picton St, Montpelier)
A lovely sounding breakfast here for £7.50. The Vegan Bristolian: Veggie sausages, sesame infused spinach, scrambled tofu, mushrooms, toast, beans, tomatoes & crispy fried potatoes. Not sure what else is vegan, but they might be able to adapt if you contact them in advance.

Cafe Retreat (Whiteladies Rd; Victoria St; the Downs)
They have all the usual 'minus' options (e.g.veg breakfast w/out eggs), and some standard jacket potatoes (beans), with some tasty sounding sandwiches, such as Crumbled Falafel with Tomato & Chilli Salsa, and Houmous, Black Olive & Red Onion Rings. Outside of peak times, you can create your own with options like sundried toms and roast veg. Mezze plates are also available with Houmous, Grilled Aubergine Dip, Toasted Breads, and Sun Dried Tomatoes. Yum! Prices are reasonable with buffet food/catering available, too, and their site says that they cater for all dietary requirements, however, they list salmon as vegetarian...
Menus vary slightly between cafes.

Chickpea (Cotham Hill)
Some nice vegan wraps and salads. They do gluten free cake too, but nothing vegan in that department.

The Duchess of Totterdown (198 Wells Rd, Totterdown, near-ish the Co-Op and Hillcrest Primary School)
This lovely little cafe has just opened near my old school, and having spotted that they do vegan food, I decided to go there for breakfast with my mum (have a look at their menu here). Turns out that it is partly run by the mum of someone I went to school with! The food was ace and the tea was spot on - they have some nice sounding vegan bagels and sarnies, as well as soya milk. Their food is really rather cheap and it is all made from scratch - who could say no to that?!

The Folkhouse Cafe (about half way up Park St)
I've never been here, but I've always been tempted to try one of the many craft courses that take place here (I love shiny things). They also have a cafe too, and it caters for vegans quite well. Apparently their soup is often vegan, and they have some nice-sounding mezze-y things like hummus and olives for a fair price. They sell organic baby food too. They say "All our meat, dairy and fresh produce from The Better Food Company is certified organic. Other produce is mostly organic and where it isn’t it comes from local trusted suppliers."

Update 24/10/13
I went here for lunch yesterday, and they did have some vegan food. However, nothing is labelled vegan (although gluten-free was everywhere - what about people with dairy allergies, eh?) and the staff didn't really seem to know either. One staff member had to ask the kitchen about the soup, and the chef pretty much shrugged (they did have soya milk though). To save any more awkwardness, I just ordered the hummus, which was really tasty, but I had been looking forward to a proper meal, and their webpage had sort of led me to believe that sort of thing would be available (it also cost £4.50 which is slightly steep given the small amount of bread I got). Maybe I just caught the place on a bad day, though; it was certainly very nicely decorated, and the food was very tasty, so I will go back.

Friska (Victoria St and Clifton Triangle)
I visited the Triangle branch today for lunch and the staff were so lovely that I was sold before I had even tried the food. I had a nice chat with one lady about vegan food and she tried to persuade me to try the curry (I went for the veggie pho rice noodles but only because I had been craving noodles for ages). I was eating said noodles when another staff member asked whether I didn't like the coffee (I hadn't touched it), and if that was the case she would make me another. I reassured her that the soya latte was great (it was) and that I had just been completely distracted by the delicious food. The noodles were only a fiver and they felt healthy too. Frankly, it was the best customer service I'd had in a very long time - it really made me want to go back, so I'm going to head back at some point this week to try the vegan curry. Their veggie soup is often vegan too. You can find their lunch menu here and their dinner menu here.

Health Hub (39 Cotham Hill)
This juice cafe is attached to the Natural Health Clinic and apparently has vegan options, although not listed on their website. This post on the Bristol Vegans Facebook group suggests that the menu is in fact mostly vegan, with a nice (but not cheap) raw lasagne and some tasty salads and this one says there is herbal tea and hot chocolate. Apparently it's a community interest project, so the profits go back into Bristol, which should make the food taste even better.

Update 20/6/2015
I went here earlier today and their food looks incredible! I bought some raw cake and it was absolutely delicious (seriously, their raw cakes truly are a thing of beauty - see picture below). The staff are also really friendly and keen to help you find any sort of food you might be after, be that vegan, raw or whatever. Their refreshing approach to food is pretty simple: eating well makes you feel better. As a result they are partnered with the Health Clinic above the cafe, and you can get ridiculously cheap massages and accupuncture to ease your stress.

Health Hub: lovely staff, lovely cakes!
Ickle (food van on Temple Gyratory, outside 100 Temple Way, opposite the Novotel hotel)
According to their Twitter feed, Ickle regularly has vegan options on their daily-changing menu. In the past, they've served aubergine & chickpea stew, butter bean & pepper stew on Saffron basmati rice, Thai red curry with tofu, and Courgette & Pepper with Cous Cous, Tomato & Mint salad and Hummus. They advertise their menu every day on Twitter, and if they have a vegan option they hashtag it!

Mrs Brown's Cafe (Victoria Park, by the lodge, between the Somerset Terrace and Nutgrove Avenue entrances, BS3 4QF) - added 11/10/2015
This is a lovely cafe in a lovely place. Victoria Park is such a vibrant environment and it is so nice to have a cafe there; amazingly, they have lots of wonderful vegan options, too. I went to the park with friends yesterday and as soon as I spotted this cake I knew what I was having for lunch (their cakes are made by the brilliant Kind Cakes Mean Bakes). Occasionally they open late.

Pret a Manger (Clifton Triangle) - added 4/10/2015
This chain does a few decent vegan options, including an avocado and chipotle wrap and falafel mezze. Their website has an option to filter out all the non-vegan options, so you can see what they've got before you go (bear in mind that not all locations will have all items). Vegans often get left out when it comes to food to grab and go, so I'm pleased to discover Pret's offerings!

Sandwich Sandwich (48-52 Baldwin St; 21 Queen's Rd, Clifton Triangle) - added 4/10/2015
They had a sticker in the window stating that they had vegan options, so I decided to check it out, and was not disappointed. They made me a lovely sandwich with falafels, roast veg, olives and hummus, but you can have whatever you want in yours. They have a salad bar which is also mostly vegan. The sandwich was almost too big to fit in my mouth.

Shakeaway (8 The Arcade, Bristol BS1 3JA) - added 28/6/15.
This is the only place I've listed twice on here (in both the lunch & breakfast and shop sections) because I didn't want anyone to miss out on fantastic vegan milkshakes. I heard tell a while ago that Shakeaway might have vegan options, but didn't want to check because I almost couldn't bear the disappointment. I had a look and the menu posted in the window said something to the effect of 'if you're vegan, talk to us and we'll tell you your options.' This sounded promising, but I was sort of annoyed that this wasn't just posted in the window - to try and avoid having to make a split-second decision at the till, I googled it and tried to find a menu online, but no such luck. Ok, then I thought, I'll give it a try, even though there's a queue (largely populated by 14 year olds, I haven't felt so old for quite some time). I got to the till and they had a vegan menu! I felt slightly overwhelmed, so I just chose a regular soya chocolate shake. It was absolutely delicious - thick, creamy and so tasty! I remember that they had chocolate, bourbon, and some fruity options (I wanted something unhealthy). Some of these flavours aren't even vegetarian (e.g. blackjacks - I think due to gelatine), so be a bit careful when ordering. Unfortunately, these shakes aren't cheap anyway, but with the soya options it's even more expensive (Regular add 99p, Large add £1.49) - I think mine was £4.40, which is treat price, rather than a regular thing. To be honest that's probably good given how sugary they taste...

St Werburghs City Farm (Watercress Road, St Werburghs, BS2 9YJ)
This wonderful little cafe can be found right next to the farm - if you have a spare ten minutes before it opens, have a wander around the local area, and look at the wonderful eco-homes, or have a look round the farm and see the animals! Where possible, produce is local, organic and fair-trade, which makes it all the more delicious! In 2008, the manager won an Observer Food Monthly Award for Best Ethical Contribution.
Highly recommended

Wise Beans (Unit 1 Avonmead House, 40 - 48 Stokes Croft, BS1 3QD) Added 08/07/2015
I just came across this cafe while googling something else; what a nice surprise! They do vegan baguettes, salads, wraps, soup, and cakes/snacks. Their whole menu is labelled with dietary info including vegan, gluten-free, nuts etc, which is always a bonus!

Workhouse Cafe (19-20 Perry Rd)
Haven't been here yet but I walked past the other day and found that they advertised vegan food. They have a meat-free breakfast with sausage, roast tomato, mushrooms and beans on toast - you can exchange the eggs for scrambled tofu - and they also do salad. They have now taken down the old 'Cafe Delight' sign, and have painted the front white.

Update
I went here today to finally try the promised vegan cake and it was good! I had a vegan, gluten-free brownie (£2). Gluten-free food can often have a sand-like consistency, but the texture of these worked really well. The lady that I spoke to said that they always have these brownies in, and often have another vegan cake in too. Their jacket potatoes didn't look terribly vegan friendly (all meat and cheese), however, on the way out I did notice a tasty looking hummus, rocket & red pepper baguette. They also have soya milk, and can do a vegan banana and chocolate shake. You can get a good look at their menus here.
