Veggie

By 1847 (25 St Stephen's St, BS1 1JX. Bear in mind that St Stephen's St is bisected by Clare St/Corn St - 1847 is near the old Mr Wolf's, and is easiest to find from the Baldwin St end) - added 30/10/2015.
I was lucky enough to eat here before they officially opened and the food was delicious - I had the tofu 'fish and chips' with a really tasty savoury lemon curd (see their starter/main menu here). This place isn't the cheapest in Bristol, but it would make a great treat.

Although it doesn't say it on the menu, I asked and starters would be about £6 and mains £14 if you don't opt for two courses for £19.50.

Cafe Kino (108 Stokes Croft)
Good value, with a fair range of options available including breakfast and burgers - I had a nice rice dish when I went here, and the portion was huge! Fairtrade and organic.

Update May 2014
I ate breakfast with friends here last week and it was great! We turned up just before it was officially open, but the nice staff let us in anyway as it was raining. The menu/food looked so good that I also bought a massive slice of vegan chocolate cake and a sandwich too.

Maitreya Social - formerly Cafe Maitreya (89 St Marks Road, Easton)
I visited the organic food festival (amazing!) today and found that they had a stall there, so my partner and I picked up some lunch as we've been meaning to visit for ages. It was absolutely delicious, but I was quite surprised at how small the portion was (I had a tahini, sweetcorn and cashew patty) for £4.50.  I'd definitely go to their restaurant, but it would probably be for a treat! Voted 'best vegetarian restaurant' several times.

Update May 2015
I recently went to the restaurant itself and was not disappointed. I had sauteed cannelini beans (in a lovely lemony olive oil sauce) with monks beard (like samphire) for a main and shared two desserts with a friend. There was a nutty chocolate tart and a pineapple jelly with coconut icecream and pomegranate 'honeycomb.' It's not cheap, but it makes a wonderful treat. Book ahead, as I imagine they are often full.

Fi Real (57 West Street, Old Market, BS2 0BZ)
Opened in May 2014, Fi Real is a family-run restaurant that seeks to bring us veggie/vegan food with 'an authentic Caribbean flavour.' They have home-made juice and vegan cake (look at this victoria sponge with guava drizzle and strawberries!), and a changing menu, which currently features escovitched tofu. I love the tastes of Caribbean food, but usually us vegans are out of luck in this department, so discovering this has made my tummy very happy. Will definitely try this place out when I'm (vaguely) in the area.

The Mighty Food Fight vegan van (Old Market, outside Pip n Jay Church, corner of Narrow Plain and Temple Way, BS2 0ET - map
This sounds pretty cool! I love love love the idea of vegan donuts, and they have cake and raw snacks too. Their tacos sound lovely, with a sort of falafel-type filling (choose between 'pizza' and chipotle chili), and at only £3.80, it's a bit of a bargain.

Roll for the Soul (Unit 2, St Lawrence House, Quay Street, Bristol BS1 2JL - this is where the old City Centre Cafe used to be. Effectively, this is Nelson Street where all the graffiti is, but at the fountains end, as opposed to the Broadmead end).

Commenter Mickey O'Connor left this comment on one of my posts "You should also try roll for the soul in the centre. All food is vegetarian and the (v) marked on the menu is vegan a good selection incl a choice of cakes. It's also a not for profit organisation, great place." Looking through the menu, Mickey is right about the clear labelling, and the food sounds great (mezze, tarka dhal, salads), all for about a fiver each. I also like the fact that this is a bike cafe, which means that you can get your bike fixed as you munch. I'll have to give this place a try!

Update 17/6/14
I went here a few days ago and the food was great! I heartily endorse everything written above. I did feel a bit sick when I left though, as the chap selling food persuaded me to try their (warm) vegan chocolate and rapberry cake (with ice cream), after I'd just eaten a mahoosive burger (delicious). It was so cheap £7.50 for the whole lot, that I thought 'why not?' Next time, I will make sure that I'm pretty hungry before I go back, rather than try to stuff myself full of foodz. PS this place is also a bike hub which is really cool!

Riverside Garden Centre Vegetarian Cafe (Clift House Rd, Bristol BS3 1RX) added 9/8/15
I had no idea that this cafe was veggie! While on the Shaun the Sheep trail, my partner and I decided to have a cofffee break here, and it was rather nice. On their menu at the moment they have olives and hummus, which sounds pretty good to me. Riverside is also a social enterprise, which means that their profits go back into making the world a better place, and they have a mini playground to keep little ones occupied. Although this menu looks vegan, it does change - I found a couple of other reviews that state that they do vegan food, but it would be really great if places made a bigger deal of their vegan offerings and properly labelled everything! Page 98 of the Viva Vegetarian & Vegan Guide to Bristol and Bath suggests that the menu was at one point at least 25% vegan, which looks about right.

On the Delicious Magazine list of best garden centre cafes, and the 2014 Telegraph top 25 garden centres for food.

Royce Rolls (St Nicholas Market)
Great place to grab a quick lunch (rolls, cakes, flapjacks, samosas, pasties, nice drinks, soya milk) - loads of vegan stuff and all very cheap! Hopefully you can get a sense of the cafe from the picture below.

The selection of goodies at Royce Rolls - yum!

The Spotless Leopard vegan van (location varies - check website)
If you are lucky enough to catch this van, their food is amazing! They have done vegan quiche, samosas, burgers, sandwiches and salads, but I've got to say, the piece de resistance is their stunning cake. They also do pop-up restaurants, special orders and catering across the UK. Run by Louise Abel, the vegan van can often be found on Alma Road, just off Whiteladies Road, and they are at lots of Bristol festivals and events, such as Vegfest and Christmas at the Spiegeltent (when I got to the latter, they were doing a very good trade indeed). Named one of three of the best street food outlets by Bristol 24/7.

To keep up to date with these guys, it's probably best to 'like' their Facebook page here
